Napa, Calif. — At the fall edition of The Cosmetic Bootcamp (CBC), attendees learned the ins and outs of in-office dispensing.
Wm. Philip Werschler, M.D., said that since healthcare reform began, in-office dispensing of prescription medications has exploded. He is a Spokane, Washington-based dermatologist in private practice and a clinical teaching professor at the University of Washington.
A significant proportion of the approximately 14,000 dermatologists practicing in the United States utilize Prescriber’s Choice dispensing services, as Dr. Werschler does. Such services grew out of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act Section 503B, which was issued after contaminated medicines from a compounding pharmacy in the Northeast resulted in more than 800 meningitis infections and 76 deaths.
