Looking Younger Requires Homework

Las Vegas – At the fall Cosmetic Bootcamp (CBC), Gregory A. Buford, M.D., shared secrets for building lifelong bonds with patients. He is an Englewood, Colorado-based plastic surgeon.

Thanks to social and mass media, “Patients are overwhelmed with information. Should they be on the South Beach diet, the Mediterranean diet? There is no perfect diet. It’s all about balance – and education.” Because physicians and nurses can only spend limited amounts of time talking to patients, Dr. Buford hands them his book, Eat, Drink, Heal. “I tell them, you’ve got a homework assignment. You don’t have to go on the Internet. Read the book.”

When they do, he said, most adopt his recommendations and stick with them post-procedure. “They come back a year later and say, ‘Dr. B, I’m still using the protein shakes.’ How cool – you’re giving them quality of life. Brand your practice – take that extra step. Don’t just see patients as one-offs. See them as patients for life.”
