Pearls to Promote Healing
Las Vegas – At the recent edition of The Cosmetic Bootcamp (CBC), Gregory A. Buford, M.D., outlined a holistic approach to maximizing patients’ health before, during and after aesthetic procedures from surgeries to fillers and Botox.
To prepare patients for any aesthetic procedure, he looks at presurgical lab results including vitamin D levels, hemoglobin A1C, CBC, albumin, pre-albumin and more to see how nutritionally complete or incomplete patients are. He often recommends MEND Cosmetic. “It’s an easy supplement to use. Don’t send them to GNC. Get them on something good.”
On the day of a procedure, he has patients follow an advanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol. “It’s essentially clear liquids, and optimization of insulin to help jumpstart patients’ healing. NPO after midnight is antiquated nonsense – patients heal better when they’re not starving.” Dr. Buford is an Englewood, Colorado-based plastic surgeon.
