Aspen, Colo. – At the most recent edition of The Cosmetic Bootcamp (CBC), attendees learned that effective performance reviews begin on a positive note.
When performing reviews, said Ron Hartley, Business Relationship Manager with Solutionreach, start by finding a comfortable place to sit with your employee. “It might be your office, but sometimes that desk in between is a barrier.”
Then, he said, make eye contact and thank the employee – for meeting with you, and for whatever they are doing well. “Whether they’re a superior or average employee, make them feel good – say, ‘Thank you for doing a good job,’ or for being on time every day.”
Mr. Hartley said the performance review processes is about “having more of an open discussion, letting that person tell you what they think they’re doing well, and being able to respond to the employee in a somewhat more casual atmosphere, which should open up greater discussion and sharing.”
