Aspen, Colo. – Successful employee reviews should close with action plans for the employee and supervisor, said Ron Hartley, at the summer Cosmetic Bootcamp (CBC). He is Business Relationship Manager with Solutionreach.
After discussing key questions about the employee’s strengths and areas for improvement, he suggested the following:
- Sum up the review with an action plan. Rather than showing the employee a list of items they will be held accountable for, he said, “Ask the them, ‘What can I hold you accountable for when we meet next? The employee may say, ‘I’ll try to come in on time 2 days a week.’ You can say, ‘That would be an improvement, but why don’t we shoot for 5 days a week?'”
- Additionally, Mr. Hartley suggested asking the employee what you as the doctor can be held accountable for at the next review. “They’ll probably be surprised you asked, but let them think about it and answer. They may say, ‘It would be great if you could be more open with me about how I’m doing.’ Say, ‘That’s great,'” and if necessary, refine the employee’s suggestion.
