Aspen, Colo. – At the summer Cosmetic Bootcamp (CBC), attendees learned how to avoid granulomatous reactions after microneedling or nonablative laser therapy.
Applying preservative-containing cosmeceuticals too soon after microneedling or nonablative resurfacing can lead to granulomas, said Tina S. Alster, M.D. She is director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery and clinical professor of dermatology at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
Accordingly, she recommends waiting one week, or until patients have returned to their regular skincare regimen, before applying additional cosmeceuticals. During that week, patients use Dr. Alster’s A Method post-care kit. It includes a gentle, nonirritating cleanser, a daytime moisturizer with a physical sunblock, and an evening moisturizer.
