Aspen, Colo. – At the summer Cosmetic Bootcamp (CBC), Suneel Chilukuri, M.D., explained how his practice broaches the discussion of vaginal tightening and feminine rejuvenation procedures.
The most common indication Dr. Chilukuri sees is stress urinary incontinence – though patients never mention this problem to him. Instead, he or his staff subtly approaches any female patient over 40 with whom the practice has an established relationship. After injecting a filler or performing another treatment, Dr. Chilukuri tells the patient, “I’m going to ask you a weird question – when you cough, laugh hard or go to the gym and push hard on a weight, do you leak?” Over the past year, he said, 62% of women have answered yes.
“All I say is, if you want to know more, there are nonsurgical ways of helping with this.” If patients are interested, he introduces them to his nurse practitioner who specializes in the treatment.
Currently, Medicare and commercial insurances do not cover the cost of feminine rejuvenation procedures. The costs vary widely, from $400 to $1500 per treatment depending on the equipment and time required. Dr. Chilukuri is a Houston-based cosmetic and Mohs surgeon.
