Las Vegas – At the fall edition of The Cosmetic Bootcamp (CBC), Susan Van Dyke, M.D., discussed technological advances behind ultrasound-based noninvasive fat treatments. She is a Paradise Valley, Arizona-based dermatologist.
Liposonix uses high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) to create significant heat deep within the dermis. “It’s very effective and versatile. We can treat any part of the body with it. But the pain became a limiting factor in delivering this treatment. We have to do IV sedation to get this done, but it works.”
One patient whose photos she shared underwent cryolipolysis on her right side and HIFU on the left. Both treatments worked in terms of fat reduction, says Dr. Van Dyke, but the ultrasound treatment seemed to provide a bit of lift as well.
